In America there are over thirty cities called Madrid. In Asia there is only one, but it is the oldest of all. The curious story is exactly six hundred years ago, during the stay of the first European diplomatic embassy in Asia, in the fabled city of Samarkand . There the Almighty Tamerlane asked one day the leader of the embassy, \u200b\u200bRuy González de Clavijo , where he was, and replied that this came from a small town called Madrid. As a symbol of friendship, the great Turkish-Mongol emir send building on the outskirts of the imperial capital, a stock with the same name as the birthplace of the English ambassador.
